Elogen selected by RoyalStav and Veolia for a renewable H2 project in Slovakia

Elogen, a GTT Group company, announces that its proprietary membrane electrolyzer technology has been selected by RoyalStav, a Slovak company specialized in the engineering and construction of energy projects, as part of a renewable H2 project led by Veolia Energia Slovensko, a.s., a subsidiary of the Veolia group in Slovakia.

Elogen will design and manufacture the 1-MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, scheduled for onsite installation in 2026.

The project, located near the town of Žiar nad Hronom, involves injecting H2 produced by electrolysis into an existing combined heat and power (CHP) plant to replace part of the natural gas used in the gas turbine. This integration will help reduce the plant’s carbon footprint. Any surplus green H2 produced will also be made available for transport via a H2 refueling station.

Eric Minaux, Managing Director of Elogen, declared, “We are proud that our PEM electrolyzer technology has been chosen for this initiative in Slovakia. This project is a concrete example of Elogen’s contribution to industrial decarbonization, by integrating green H2 into a CHP plant. We thank RoyalStav and Veolia for their trust and look forward to deploying our solution on site in 2026.”

Peter Dobrý, Managing Director of Veolia Energia Slovensko, a.s, said, “Veolia Energia Slovensko is building a H2 production facility using water electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources, primarily photovoltaic. The electrolyzer will produce green H2 for injection into the natural gas network, increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the distribution system. The project provides grid stabilization services by using excess electricity for H2 production and synergizes with a photovoltaic plant to ensure green H2 production. This initiative positions Veolia as a leader in H2 production while supporting EU taxonomy requirements and decarbonization goals. The project is also in line with our strategic Green Up program, representing our commitment to modernizing our operations, innovating the approach to the use of sustainable energy and protecting the environment.”

Filip Vavrinčík, CEO of RoyalStav, said, “This project reflects our commitment to supporting the energy transition in Slovakia by implementing innovative and practical solutions. We chose Elogen’s PEM electrolyser technology for its reliability and performance, and we are delighted to be working with Veolia and Elogen to make green H2 an industrial reality.”
