Electrolyzer hazards when producing green hydrogen
Several types of electrolyzers are in service, and with more types being developed and adopted, it is important to understand the hazards related to each type of technology so they can be safely deployed at scale.
Production of hydrogen using a biological process
A large portion of produced food internationally is wasted. An efficient way to minimize the loss of the value of this wasted food is to use it as a source of energy through biological green H2 production, an inherently environmentally friendly energy source.
Digitalization and the energy transition
According to Gulf Energy Information’s Global Energy Infrastructure database, there are 236 blue H2 projects worldwide. Many of these projects use SMR or autothermal reforming with CCS. A large portion of these projects are in North America and Europe.
Decarbonizing natural gas distribution pipelines
ATCO’s Fort Saskatchewan H2 Blending Project will see 5-vol% H2 blended into a portion of the Fort Saskatchewan natural gas system to approximately 2,100 customers, making it the highest blend rate in Canada to date and the first project of its kind in Alberta.
Green H2 in Indian refineries—Challenges and opportunities
During COP26, Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi committed India to a net-zero carbon emissions target by 2070. As part of the net-zero strategy, he presented “panchamrit” (five elixirs) or goals that would help the country to achieve its target for net-zero emissions by 2070.
Green ammonia: Vital for a sustainable and green future
A growing transition toward decarbonization requires long-term sustainable energy storage and identifying suitable carriers. In recent years, the increasingly stringent regulations pertaining to emissions and zero-carbon energy goals have pushed the demand for green ammonia.
H2Tech: Technology Spotlight
A new valve series solution has been launched to isolate process pressure in high-pressure gas applications such as hydrogen refueling stations and tube trailers, reducing fugitive emissions and improving safety.
H2Tech: Projects Update
Scatec and Egypt’s Sovereign Fund’s 100-MW green H2 plant to be developed in Ain Sokhna. A final investment decision on the project is scheduled for 2023. If built, the facility will produce 15,000 tpy of H2 to be converted into 90,000 tpy of green ammonia.
H2Tech: Global Projects Data
Gulf Energy Information’s Global Energy Infrastructure database is tracking more than 1,050 H2 projects around the world. Nearly half of these investments are being made in Western Europe, followed by the Asia-Pacific region (21%) and the U.S. (13%).
