Canadian developer Everwind has received environmental approval for its $6bn, 1mn t/yr green ammonia project at Point Tupper in Nova Scotia. This puts the developer on track to begin construction of the first, 200,000t/yr phase in the first half of this year and to deliver first ammonia to its offtakers in Germany by 2025.
Everwind signed memorandums of understanding with German energy firms Uniper and Eon in August last year, amid a suite of German-Canadian hydrogen agreements.
2025 – First deliveries to Uniper and Eon
The developer had purchased a site at Point Tupper in May that it claims has enough space for more than 10mn t/yr of green ammonia production capacity. The site includes a deepwater port as well rail-loading facilities, pipeline networks, 7.8mn bl of storage capacity, freshwater supplies and electricity transmission.
Everwind plans to further develop 2GW of onshore wind capacity to power the second phase of the project, which will ramp green ammonia production up to 1mn t/yr by 2026.
